Taste of Tapioca during Ramadhan

Salam Ramadhan to all farmers, Ramadhan almost over. Another one week to go. You better not doing much heavy physical work in Ramadhan month or else you will easily become thirsty. Especially in our Malaysian whether where the outdoor is very hot. Unless you are working in the air-conditioning office and factory. So the best thing a farmer like us to do is a light work such as clearing old plant and burning some rotten plants or dried grass and other rubbish from morning to noon. The work should start early in the morning which is a normal practise for padi farmers in Kedah. Afternoon is the best time to prepare food for breaking fast. Some farmer are doing part time selling desert or kueh during Ramadhan for additional income to support family. For us, after doing the morning exercise in our farm preparing for next season and new plants after Raya, we took time to dig few tapioca which planted sometime back in corner area. We decided to make "kueh Lepat Ubi Kayu" or Cassava Wrap. There are also few bannana tree left over and we cut it to make a wrapping later. But for those of you who do not know how to cook this "kueh" you can find it at any Pasar Ramadhan in your area. May be it is a rare food and only available at traditional kueh stalls. That's why if you have a small vacant land, do feel free to plant tapioca as it is maintenance free and easy to harvest. There are also many varieties and can be cooked in many ways. Some prefer to eat boiled and mixed with coconut gravy. Happy Ramadhan Month.
